Ian Russell has been Founding Professor of Public Health at University of Wales Bangor since October 2002. He is a career public health researcher who specialises in the design, conduct and analysis of pragmatic randomised trials to evaluate complex interventions, notably in primary care, in gastro-enterology and in musculo-skeletal medicine. He was an early protagonist of both patient-assessed measures of health outcome within trials and systematic reviews to synthesise the findings of trials.

York (where he was Professor of Health Sciences and Director of the York Trials Unit).
