David Ford - Assistant Director

Teaching Interests
David Ford is the Executive Director of the Centre for Health Information, Research and Evaluation (CHIRAL) at the School of Medicine, Swansea University. David’s teaching responsibilities include leading modules in the Delivery of Healthcare for undergraduate students, masters degree modules in Organisational Behaviour and Organisational Change and Development and occasional lecture series for the School’s Graduate Entry Programme in Medicine.

Research Interests
David's research interests are in the field of Health Services Research and he specialises in the use secondary use of routinely collected data to support and conduct research. He has been involved in a wide range of large-scale, multi-centre studies of complex interventions and evaluations of policy and service initiatives. David is joint lead of the Health Information Research Unit for Wales (HIRU), a newly established research centre which develops new ways of harnessing the potential of routinely collected information collected in health and other settings. In partnership with many organisations across Wales, HIRU is assembling a large scale, linked, population-based dataset which uses the School of Medicine’s Blue-C supercomputer as the principal computing infrastructure to support analysis and data modelling

Society Memberships
David is a Director, long time Steering Group member and past chairman of MediWales, an industry forum supporting and representing the healthcare industries of Wales. He sits on the Operational Steering Group of the Clinical Research Collaboration Cymru, the Management Board of the All-Wales Alliance for Research and Development in Health and Social Care (AWARD) and a number of other national bodies.
